The alumni
of our school, Yu Chih Wei, from the
class of 1993 in the Department of
Physical Education, is serving as
the coach for the Chinese national
team in the 19th Hangzhou Asian
Games rowing event. Under his
guidance, athlete Lai, Kuan-Chieh
won the gold medal in the "Canoe
Sprint 1000m Men's Single" event,
marking Taiwan's first-ever gold
medal in the history of the Asian
Games in rowing.
This medal was hard-earned, as Lai, Kuan-Chieh, who
specializes in the 200m and 500m
events, was not initially considered
a favorite. It was the encouragement
and support from our alumni Yu Chih
Wei, along with Lai, Kuan-Chieh's
unwavering spirit, that led to the
achievement of this medal.
Alumni Yu Chih Wei had previously received recognition
as the recipient of the 108th year's
Ministry of Education and Sports
Administration's awards for
outstanding sports coaches, both for
individual and team coaching
excellence. He has also served as
the head coach for the Wu Sha Junior
High School rowing team in Yilan
County for an extended period.
Winning the gold medal at the Asian
Games is a testament to his vital
role, be it in tactical guidance or
training support. Transitioning from
an athlete to a coach, Yu Chih Wei
has selflessly imparted his
knowledge to Lai, Kuan-Chieh,
contributing to the sport of rowing
in a different capacity. This has
always been his steadfast goal, and
such an achievement is worthy of
emulation by students at our school,
setting an example for the entire
school community. |
