The Department of Social Studies Education was established in 1987 and has specialized expertise in the fields of social studies, as well as is engaged in theoretical research and practice of social studies education through integrated research. The objectives of this department are focuses on visiting, intern and investigation. It includes subjects in academic fields of human and social science. This department can apply cooperation teaching techniques. Also it conducts researches on educational theory, regional county teaching, and K-9 curriculum of social science fields. The curriculum includes courses in the areas of history, geography and social studies and equally emphasizes theory and practice. The department offers a variety of academic and research activities and issues three publications, Journal of Department of Social Studies Education, Valley Wind, and Social Studies Education Research, which providing the faculties, students and alumni of the department with a great opportunity to exchange teaching and research experience. The department also holds three or more academic seminars by local and overseas experts every semester and annual departmental thesis presentation. In addition, the two annual events are Local Studies Camp and Sightseeing Tour that held by the Students' Association of the department. The Department at present has a teaching staff of 32 members, of which 11 are fulltime members: 4 professors, 3 associate professors, 1 assistant professor, 3 instructors. 7 of the faculty members have Ph.D. degrees.
