The English Department was established in 2005 in accordance with the transformation of the university from a teachers' college to a comprehensive higher education institute. The curriculum of the English department consists of English major courses. The department also offers general courses, English teacher training courses, and English/American literature courses to prepare students to become well-rounded in all four English language skills, English and American cultures and literature, as well as English language teaching and applied linguistics. The department has a state-of-the-art language lab to facilitate the students' development of English language proficiency and a brand new wireless oral interpretation classroom to provide students with hands-on practices. Currently there are 9 full-time faculty members in the Department, including 1 professor, 3 associate professors, and 5 assistant professors who have doctoral degrees in TESOL, linguistics, and English/American literature.
