Department of Language and
Literacy of Education was
established in 1987,
dedicated to cultivate
talents for language
education. As of today, we
had won the championship of
National Mandarin Talent
Contests among Teachers
Training Colleges in Taiwan
for fourteen times, and
awarded gold and silvers in
Writing Competition of
Children′s Literature among
Teachers Training College
Students.
With our great success on cultivating students, we were
granted to set up the first
Master’s Degree program of
Language and Literacy
Education in Taiwan in
August, 2001 and the
Doctoral Program in August,
2004. We later started
courses of Teaching Chinese
as a Second Language and
established the Master’s
Degree program of Teaching
Chinese as a Second Language
in August, 2012.
Courses in our department combine theory and practice.
Courses for undergraduate
students, such as Children
and Young-adult Literature;
Writing, Listening,
Speaking, Reading and
Composing Education; and
Chinese Classic Reading, all
provide theoretical and
practical training. We also
provide unique and
specialized courses such as
Chinese Language Testing and
multiple evaluation and
Language Courses Design and
Education. We are at the
forefront in the field of
native language education by
offering courses like Theory
and Practice of Chinese
Classics Reading and
Reciting.
In our Master program, we
emphasize the combination of
theory and practice of
language teaching, aiming to
foster students’ ability to
do research and to teach.
We invite scholars and professors in different fields
to lecture or demonstrate
teaching skills every
semester. Through their
expertise and experience,
invited scholars expand
students’ horizon and
inspire students to plan
ahead for the future.
