Cross-disciplinary Aesthetic Experience Activity
The Department of Language and Literacy Education and the Center for Teacher Education and Careers Services,NTCU joint-hosted an immersive cross-disciplinary aesthetic experience activity, inviting students from the Affiliated Experimental Elementary School of NTCU (NTCU-ES) to visit the specialized exhibitions and participated in hands-on creative workshops.
A total of 86 sixth-graders participated in the event, visiting the featured exhibition titled "To the Linguiverse and Beyond," curated by the Department of Language and Literacy Education. The young students immersed themselves in a rich display of calligraphy, seal engraving, innovative teaching aids, literature, and picture books, absorbing the artistic atmosphere and nurturing their aesthetic appreciation. The visitors engaged in deep discussions as they read through literary compositions and picture books, exploring the structural presentation of seal engraving works and the visual layout of compound-character Chinese New Year couplets. Meanwhile, the teaching aids section proved to be a major highlight, where students enthusiastically played idiom application challenges and Chinese character component recognition game with great joy.
To deepen the experience beyond mere visual appreciation, pre-service teachers from the Department of Language and Literacy Education guided the elementary students through practical activities, including the writing of traditional Chinese New Year couplets and board games. During the creative board game sessions, students were divided into groups to tackle intellectual challenges, sparking moments of quiet reflection followed by bursts of excitement as answers were discovered. In the square-couplet (Doufang) calligraphy workshop, the children challenged themselves to write in the ancient Seal Script (Zhuan Shu), practicing characters such as "Horse" (馬), "Auspicious" (吉), "Good Fortune" (福), and "Wealth" (財). They further enriched their work by integrating personalized, playful illustrations, infusing traditional art with youthful originality.
This cross-disciplinary aesthetic experience allowed the essence of arts and literature to take deep root in the hearts of the participants. While the university students proudly showcased and shared their own creative endeavors, the elementary school students engaged in meaningful dialogues with both the creators and their masterpieces before embarking on their own artistic expressions. Through this dynamic exchange, the seeds of beauty and creativity have been sown across generations, poised to grow and flourish in the gentle breeze of artistic education.
