05/18,
Principal Yang and Chief of the
International Affair, Dr. Chu,
went to Canada in the early
morning. Even though the plane
delayed for 2 hours in the
runway during taking off, the
commissioner of Taipei Economic
and Cultural Office in Vancouver
still waited for us in the
airport and picked us up. And
then we had some discussions
about Taiwan and Canada’s
cultural exchanging issues. We
both had a great talk and also
established a school’s contact
window in western Canada.
05/20 Principal Yang visited a successful model of
entrepreneur in Canada, Jason
Kuo, the CEO of Viva
Pharmaceutical Inc., and also
the former President of
Vancouver, Canada-Taiwan
Business Council--President Ke.
President Ke succeeded in
establishing the health food
Kingdom of Canada, and he is now
investing heavily and setting up
factories in the United States
and Brunei. President Ke
committed Principal Yang to
welcome our students with
chemical background get
practical training in their
company (Vancouver, Brunei).
Principal Yang's current visit
to Vancouver, Canada-Taiwan
Business Council has
successfully opened up the
pipeline for our graduates’
practical training in Canada,
which is an extraordinary
achievement.

05/22 Principal Yang took a
morning flight to inland city,
Kamloops, visited the Thompson
River University (TRU), and
signed the MOU with the school
principal, Dr. Alan Shaver,
which is our school’s first
sister school in Canada.
Exchanging activities of faculty
and students were also beginning
to start. The Associate Vice
President and CEO of global
operations, Dr. WesKoczka, will
visit our school on July 2 and
3, and discussed about
international cooperation to the
Department of Education(for
example: 2 +2 Dual Degree
Program ). Currently, the
numbers of TRU students are
about 10,000 people, and there
are more than 1,000
international students in TRU.
There is a three floor building
of international affairs, which
is equipped with 60 full-time
man powers to strive for the
campus internationalization. The
achievement of TRU’s
international affairs is worth
our school’s learning. On the
day of Principal Yang’s
interview, the school gate
raised our flag, showing TRU’s
concern of our visit. TRU also
wrote a special report of
Principal Yang’s visit, and put
it on the school home page.
05/23 Because the aircraft
delayed for 3 hours the night
before, when the crew of
Principal Yang went back to the
hotel, it was already 2:30 in
the early morning. However, they
still get up at 6:30; ride the
ferry to Royal Roads University
(RRU) in Vancouver Island to
signed MOU for the second sister
school in Canada, starting the
academic cooperation between
NTCU and RRU. Welcoming school
professors and RRU professors
join in the National Science
Council and bilateral
cooperation programs, exchanging
students, visiting scholars, and
foreign short-term study are in
scope.
The Administration Building of RRU is a castle
and ancient monument (Hatley
Castle was built in 1908). There
are about 18 movies shoot in
this place. Peacocks shuttle
freely in the Campus, adding
more beauty of RRU’s sea
scenery.

Director Gong of the Taipei

Chief Dr. Chu, head for a formal

achievement that day to visit at
UCLA. Principal Yang also
sincerely invited UCLA’s
Chancellor to visit our school.

05/27 ~ 05/30 Principal Yang
delegation went to Houston,
Texas to participate in the
Inter-American educators’
conference. Principal Yang
attended the Round Table, and
had multi-exchange with Texas
university presidents. At the
same time, he also accumulated
school connections with Texas’s
higher education. The
Inter-American educators’
conference was set up in 1948,
which is the largest
organization in North America
higher education and academic
cooperation, and is also the
largest international education
of the global number of
participants and the number of
countries. Our school used this
great opportunity to expand
international partners and
exchange international school
thing of the world by the
Inter-American educators’
conference.

05/31~06/03 Chief Dr. Chu headed
for New York City from Houston,
using the break from intensive
training in NYIT to talk about
the NTCU/NYIT EMBA innovative
program with NYIT
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Rahmat
Shoureshi. And also discussed
about the Digital Department 1

students taking courses at
public expense in NYIT draft
plan with Dean of Education, Dr.
Michael Uttendorfe. He also

Conclusion: The visiting
schedule of Principal Yang and
Chief Dr. Chu this time is
tight, which covered Canada and
the United States, signed the
two school sisters of the west
coast of Canada, and establish
the academic exchanging program
in Canada. The brief stay in the
6 major cities in North America
laid the foundation for the
school’s international affairs
in North America. In fact, some
effects of the international
affairs may be appeared many
years later. The trees planted
by the ancestors letting the
descendants’ cool philosophy
reflex the consistent beliefs of
the school internationalization;
and the fruitful results in the
future will be shared by
teachers and students in NTCU.
