The Department of Music Education was founded in 1993 and was renamed the Department of Music in 2006 in line with the transformation of the university. This department has had a very good reputation since the time of the Japanese occupation of Taiwan and has become a key player in the development of musical talents in central Taiwan . The goal of this department is to train those who are interested in becoming musicians or elementary school music teachers. The department recruits students who excel not only in musical knowledge but also in musical techniques. All students are required to declare one major along with two minors in order to enhance their skills, musical sensitivity, and rational thinking. The department aims to help build students' confidence and to foster pride in their profession. At present, this department includes 12 faculty members: 3 professors, 5 associate professors, 1 assistant professor, and 3 instructors, 3 of the faculty members have Ph.D. degrees.
