The Department of Special Education was established in 1993. In 2001, the department established the first Graduate Institute of Special Education and Assistive Technology as well as the Graduate Institute of Early Intervention in 2004. Owing to the increasing need for transformation in the educational system, the department underwent its reform in 2006 by merging the graduate institutes with the Department of Special Education and remained teacher development department. The goals of the department are (1) Preparing high quality special education teachers in preschools and primary schools. (2) Offering programs for preparing professional personnel in Special Education. (3) Developing professional educators in Assistive Technology of Special Education. There are 10 full-time faculty members, including 1 professor, 5 associate professors, and 4 assistant professors, all of whom have doctoral degree.
